EPL: Klopp reveals Alisson Becker’s regrets after Liverpool defeat to Man City

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, has revealed that goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, was “very disappointed” with the gravity of his mistakes in the Reds’ Premier League 4-1 loss against Manchester City on Sunday.

Klopp explained that Becker had exclaimed ‘not today, not today’ following his two huge distribution errors that gifted Man City two goals before Phil Foden sealed the victory for Pep Guardiola’s men with a sublime solo effort.

Liverpool had gone behind through Ilkay Gundoigan’s goal but Mohamed Salah’s penalty pulled them level.

Speaking after the defeat, Klopp said Becker would learn from his mistakes and insisted that he advised the Brazilian shot-stopper to clear the ball into the stands if situations became too difficult for him.

“I spoke to him now a few seconds ago. He’s obviously very disappointed and his words were, ‘not today, not today’ and I said, ‘yeah, that is the problem with mistakes, you cannot decide when you make them’. The only thing you can do is learn from it,” Klopp said at a post-match press conference.

“That is what he’ll do and it will never happen to him again, I’m pretty sure.

“But tonight it was decisive, I would say. That is okay. He saved our lives. I do not know how often, he’s an absolutely world-class goalie and tonight some things went a little bit wrong and we’ve to take that and we do.

“I said to him already, ‘we have stands, you can shoot the ball there’. It is like it’s.”

Liverpool are now 10 points behind leaders Man City, who have a game in hand.
