Journalist Chido Onumah, Drags DSS To Court Over Detention
Journalist and activist, Chido Onumah, on Wednesday filed a legal suit against the Department of State Services (DSS) over his arrest and detention on September 29.
Mr Onumah filed the suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja through his lawyer, Moses Ideh.
He is seeking the enforcement of his fundamental human rights to dignity of his person, right to personal liberty, freedom of expression and right to own personal property brought pursuant to Section 34, 35, 39, 41 and 44 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
He listed DSS Director-General, Yusuf Bichi, as first respondent and DSS as second respondent.
Onumah was arrested at the Abuja airport on September 29 on his return from Spain.
DSS said it arrested the journalist because of a shirt he was wearing which bore the words “We are all Biafrans”, which is the title of a book he authored.
The secret police said it was capable of undermining public order and national security.
